how to learn

August 24th, 2008

Have you been looking for a structured way to loose weight that doesn’t involve the muscle-tearing strain of the gym? Are you like thousands of other Dallas-area residents that don’t have the patience for diets or a wallet fat enough to work out with a personal trainer to motivate you each time you work out? If you’re looking for a fun way to get in shape and don’t have the know how or access to facilities to play a sport regularly, then martial arts like karate, tae kwon do, or jiu jitsu may be exactly what you need in order to reap the physical and emotional rewards from your workouts.Finding a good  Dallas Karate School , however, is easier said than done. This is because it is increasingly difficult to find a school with expertise comprehensive in one martial art combined with the educational know-how that comes from teaching a variety of martial arts from muay tai to judo. To find the best karate school for you in Dallas, consider the following criteria as the best for making a judgment on where you ought to enroll and spend your hard-earned money.Location. It is absolutely critical that the location of your school is convenient for you. For many working adults, this means a school that is conveniently located between work and home or near home. For children, this means a location that is close to school or else one that is otherwise easily accessible.Schedule. You’re never going to go to a martial arts class if attending it regularly is inconvenient for you. Many larger schools are able to offer more flexible scheduling since they offer more frequent classes for each level of experience. The trade off for some is that a fuller schedule for instructors means that instructors won’t get to know students quite as well personally, though a good instructor will always make an effort to understand his students personally and strive to improve upon their weaknesses and build upon their strengths.Experience. There is no substitute for an experience martial arts instructor. An experienced instructor will not only be able to motivate you better but will also be in a better position to help you improve in your specific martial art of interest.Breadth of offerings. Dojo that offer more martial arts are more likely to incorporate cross-disciplinary approaches in the teaching of specific martial arts. Large academies or institutes offer generally offer a variety of martial art training and the consequence is that curriculum is not only more practical in a self-defense context but also more fun to learn.

Public Relations Services

August 13th, 2008

The public relations services industry sustained a dramatic impact with the introduction of the Internet. In 1993, ProfNet, a collaboration of public information officers that provided journalists with access to expert sources, was launched. Its members would include colleges, corporations, nonprofit organizations, and even law firms. ProfNet would also include an online catalog of 2,000 leading experts across all disciplines.

As the use of the Internet has continued to grow, the transition to interactive communications required a huge change in thinking and has created new opportunities for building relationships between organizations and their public. The Internet is able to deliver messages combining various methods of communication; text, audio, graphics, still pictures, animation, and even full motion video. The challenge for the public relations services professionals were to use this tool to the organization’s advantage, thus allowing for more one to one communication while still maintaining the credibility and essential trust for the organization’s well being.

The Internet has also driven the increasing globalization of the marketplace. In 1999, the United States had an overwhelming lead in Internet users, with more than 110 million, which is nearly 43 percent of the total 259 million worldwide Internet users. By 2002, the United States had been projected to have 1/3 of worldwide Internet users. However, it did decline to 27 percent by the end of 2005. The most notable impact on the public relations services industry by the growth of the Internet was in the re-evaluation of the traditional marketplace. Normal boundaries defining not only economic but also geographic roles had been redefined with the increasingly huge global market.

Public relations services programs are able to constantly monitor the Internet in order to identify new and innovative ways to communicate with targeted audiences through this medium. Companies using the Internet can take advantage of the one to one marketing opportunities presented by the Internet to reach the important leaders in industry. Extending the any organizations’ presence to the World Wide Web and commercial online services transcended to the traditional public relations services. These communications efforts can combine the best of traditional PR—strategic consulting, marketing support, media relations, public affairs, crisis management, investor relations, even special events—with the unending reach through the Internet.

‘Giving’ your business the edge

August 6th, 2008

In this tough economy, every top manager is looking for a way to improve employee productivity and customers’ perception of the business. During better times, tickets to sporting events, dinners at fine restaurants, and nights on the town were the perfect way to say ‘thank you’ to an employee or client, and to let them know that you appreciated their loyalty to your company. These days, however, such expenses are hard to justify when they rarely convert to customer or employee loyalty. Such perks are also too often misinterpreted as personal gestures, and inasmuch as they are aimed at attracting business, business is almost never the topic at hand during a baseball game, fancy dinner, or heavy drinking session. That’s why corporate gifts are trending towards lower expense and higher impact – with gift baskets leading the charge.

In life and in business it is a good policy to have others’ remember your gratitude; and what better way to have them remember than with a really great gift? Gift baskets – chock full of goodies from chocolate to wine to foie gras to flowers – will be that reminder if they are given as a corporate gift. Indeed, the vestigial bottle of 30 year old balsamic vinegar or the beautiful Riedel decanter that accompanied the Opus One will serve as reminders that you and your company appreciate your employees and your business partners.

And you need not send your secretary out on a mission to get all the goodies for your basket. Many online retailers exist who are more than willing to assemble to choicest selection of gourmet foods, ripe fruits, and world-class wines for a small premium – a premium that seems negligible given the high impact and relatively low cost of a gift basket versus the traditional baseball game or dinner (for all the reasons listed above.) What’s more, you don’t have to be an expert in wine, fruit, flowers, or desk ornaments to ensure that your employee or customer is getting the best of the best when it comes to product quality and value to you, the person paying. A gift basket company will ensure that your corporate gift is reflective of your company and your brand – appreciative, classy, and thoughtful.

So if you’re in a spot where you need to cut the fat from corporate expenses, consider upgrading to gift baskets and downgrading in price tag from your usual incentives: your shareholders, customers, and employees will thank you for it!

Why Get A Party Eentertainer For Your Children?

August 6th, 2008

There are a number of reasons why hiring an entertainer for your children. Party entertainers kill time and keep the children occupied. A clown can make balloon animals and tell jokes for 45 minutes. A magician can dazzle the kids’ eyes for an hour. This can be a great time to bring the crazy energy level down a little bit, so the screaming and the running around gets a break – and so do the parents!

This can be valuable time for a parent: socialize with the other parents (if they’re there), clean up some of the giant mess that the kids have made, or just sit in the back of the room and enjoy the show as well. With all the running around and planning that you’ve done over the course of planning this party for the children, party entertainers offer some much-needed relaxation for you!

For children, party entertainers mean a time to enjoy some great entertainment. For adults, party entertainers mean a little time to take care of some other things – or eat a sandwich instead of helping the other kids eat. Consider hiring one for your next party, and savor the benefits of the extra time!

Utilising International Auto Shipping

June 30th, 2008

Although utilising international auto shipping to transport your car from one destination into Dubai may seem extremely daunting, with the correct information you will find that it is not as difficult a task as it seems.

Equip yourself with everything you need to know about the procedure, right here.

Once you have prepared yourself with the facts, you can make enquiries into which international auto shipping agent is preferable for you to use and can obtain 100% non binding quotes using our online form. The most impressive part is that it is absolutely free and you will find yourself a lot more familiar with the process after you have taken that step.

You can choose to have your car transported into Dubai by putting it into a container or by transporting using the roll on roll off method. The latter will collect your car from your doorstep on a flatbed truck and deliver to your destination in the same manner.

Before you begin, you should take note of the following strict rules and regulations that govern the process of international auto shipping to Dubai.

General Procedures:

•    Your car will need to be evaluated by a custom’s official to acquire the correct market value of your car.
•    This evaluation figure will influence the amount of duty payable on the car. The duty is calculated at 5% of the market value of the car
•    There might be some implications that prevent your car’s entry. There are certain criteria in the rules of shipment for Dubai that your car needs to meet in order for your application to be submitted successfully. It is important to determine whether or not your car meets these criterion before you take it any further
•    A local license for the vehicle must be applied for from the Dubai Traffic Police

Documentation required to ship into Dubai:

You will need to have the following documents on hand and ready to submit when considering international auto shipping into Dubai:

•    A copy of your passport
•    Original trade documentation from your chosen international auto shipping agent
•    Commercial Invoice or proof of purchase
•    Proof of ownership
•    The evaluation document stating your car has been approved according to Dubai standards

When collecting your vehicle on Dubai soil, you will need to submit all of the above documentation with the exception of your passport.

Other Points to Note:

•    You will also need to pay custom’s duty for the car being shipped into Dubai. If there is more than one vehicle, you will pay per car.
•    In Dubai, cars drive on the right hand side of the road
•    If your car was manufactured after a certain time, you will need to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC). It is important to ask a government official what the cut off year will be when making your application to ensure that your car’s manufacture date falls into the correct period.

Now that you have all the correct information, the steps that follow will be far easier!

Bathroom Vents, Mold, and Wet Laundry

June 25th, 2008

A good shower or a bath can be quite relaxing, but not so much in a bathroom that is contaminated with mold on the ceilings, floor, or walls.  This manifests itself is a somewhat splotchy growth on the wall and it slowly moves from one part of the bathroom to another.  Leave it untreated and it will eventually go on to infest the entire bathroom.  Any drywall that is contaminated must usually be completely replaced, depending on how far along the growth of the colony is.  The mold will be able to seep through the entire depth of the drywall because it is a porous surface and unfortunately, all you can really do is replace it with a new piece.

Some homes these days are taking to putting carpet into the bathroom, but this is a serious mistake.  No matter how careful you are, the toilet, bath tub, or sink will eventually overflow and both your carpet and padding will be completely soaked in water.  If you do happen to have carpet in your bathroom and have no intentions of removing it, get ready for a mold hazard.  If the carpet and padding get wet and are not completely dried as soon as possible, mold will start to grow under it.  Once carpet padding gets molded, it has to be thrown away.  There is nothing else you can do.  The best advice is to take up the carpet and have tile installed.  This creates a waterproof barrier over your wooden floor.

Leaving damp rags, towels, or clothing on the floor anywhere is a bad idea and these items need to be washed as soon as you can, since if you leave them unattended for more than 48 hours, mold can start to grow on them.  Leaving them on a floor that is carpeted and then covering them up with dry clothes is even worse, since you will probably forget about the wet items and neglect to wash them.  This will cause mold to grow on everything in the pile, including the carpet and padding.  Clothes should be put into a hamper instead of on the floor and dry clothing should never be put on top of wet.

Keeping the humidity down in the bathroom can also be a big problem, especially if you do not have an exhaust vent installed so that steam can escape.  The water vapor adheres to the ceiling and is absorbed by it, causing it to be almost continually moist.  This is the perfect environment for mold to grow in and if you do not have an exhaust fan installed, this is something that you should invest in, especially if you are going to remodel the bathroom to remove the infection, anyway.

Mold in the Bible

June 22nd, 2008

Insurance adjusters are terribly fond of telling people that mold has been around long before human beings walked the earth and that it is not as big of a deal as the modern day medical community is making it out to be, however what many of these people don’t know (or are banking that their clients don’t know) is that mold has been a problem ever since Biblical times and probably before.

The book of Leviticus speaks of a mold contaminated home in chapter 14:39-47.  A priest was said to remove the stones in the home that were contaminated with mold and they were to be taken to a place outside of town that was used to dump things that were considered “unclean”.  If the mold (or mildew) came back after all these stones were removed, then the entire house was to be torn down.  It was considered to be a defiled place to live in and that also any clothing that was contaminated with it was to be shown to the priest and thrown away, as well.

The eighth plague of Egypt, the locusts, would have caused the Egyptians to collect as many crops from the field as possible and store them underground (where it is moist and dark).  It is speculated that the reason for the deaths of the first born children of Egypt was mold that contaminated the crops and when fed to children, would cause disease and if enough was ingested, death.  The Bible says that the eldest child received double portions of food in those times and a theory says that this is the reason that the firstborn alone died: he/she was the only child who had eaten enough of the mold for it to be fatal.  Stachybotrys atra, along with other kinds of mold, releases mycotoxins and if this was present in the grain that the Egyptians stored underground after the plague of locusts, then anyone who consumed it would have become ill.  It is said that the Jews living in Egypt at the time would have been eating herbs, unleavened bread, and lamb, which are supposedly safe from being contaminated by this mold.

So, if your insurance adjuster claims that mold was not a problem years ago and that mold has been around longer than we have, take a Bible and show him the book of Leviticus.  Even if he’s not religious, seeing mold talked about in a text over 2,000 years old should be enough to take back his statements.

Cleaning Moldy Clothes

June 18th, 2008

Our first instinct when we come into contact with clothing that has been contaminated by mold is to throw it away. Depending on the lifestyle you’re currently living, as in whether you work a full time job or have children or other matters to tend to, it might indeed be more beneficial to your situation to just throw them away. But, if you have a little more time on your hands and a little patience, you can keep the clothing that was covered in mold as long as you’re careful to completely decontaminate it.

Most items can be cleaned and the mold gotten rid of, but one thing that mold tends to do is cause stains. If you’re dealing with white clothing, you can possibly use bleach to remove them, but the longer you let the clothes sit without treating them, the more difficult it will be to remove the stain in the long run. A brush can be used to remove the mold and putting a pre-wash spray onto it and soaking it in water and laundry soap can be a good way to begin the process of removing the stain. Let it soak in the water around 45 minutes and then wash it in the washing machine. The best thing that you can do after they’re done washing is to let them dry outside naturally on a clothes line in the sun instead of using the clothes dryer in the laundry room. Using this artificial heat source can hinder your effort to remove the stain, but putting white clothes outside in the sun can actually help whiten them.

If you have something made of real leather and mold grows on it, the easiest thing to do is throw it away. Leather items can usually not be restored back to their former condition after becoming contaminated with mold.

If you need to clean mold off of furniture or anything else made of cloth, using the brush method mentioned a minute ago is the best way to go about doing this. Using a vacuum cleaner that has a hose and brush attachment piece can help in making sure that the mold spores get sucked up into the vacuum instead of into your air conditioning system. Clean the item where the mold was with a clean white rag and laundry or dish liquid, as long as you’re sure that the cleaner won’t stain the fabric.

gifts for the gourmand

May 22nd, 2008

Ah, the finer things in life. Every once in a while, we all enjoy tasting life on the elegant side. The problem is, we do not get that many chances to. It’s expensive to enjoy the richer life. But with gourmet gift baskets, you can give a little taste of the nice life without breaking the bank. With gourmet gift baskets, it’s not about how much you can fit into a basket, it’s about selection. Choosing only the finest options to include in a gift basket is what gourmet gift baskets are all about. Here are some examples of how you can give the sweet side of life to someone you care about:

Gourmet chocolates: This is one of the most popular. These chocolates are smooth and divine. These are not grocery store checkout line candy bars. They are delicious and special to those who get to eat them.

Gourmet popcorn: Freshly-popped and sometimes flavored, this popcorn makes for a treat that you don’t get to enjoy every day.

Preserves: Grandma would be proud! Fresh preserves are a sweet and wonderful alternative to your standard jelly.

There are others as well: cheeses, nuts, and little candies. Giving gourmet gift baskets is giving a delicious and relaxing time for anyone who wants to sit back and dream about the “good life.”
