Utilising International Auto Shipping

June 30th, 2008

Although utilising international auto shipping to transport your car from one destination into Dubai may seem extremely daunting, with the correct information you will find that it is not as difficult a task as it seems.

Equip yourself with everything you need to know about the procedure, right here.

Once you have prepared yourself with the facts, you can make enquiries into which international auto shipping agent is preferable for you to use and can obtain 100% non binding quotes using our online form. The most impressive part is that it is absolutely free and you will find yourself a lot more familiar with the process after you have taken that step.

You can choose to have your car transported into Dubai by putting it into a container or by transporting using the roll on roll off method. The latter will collect your car from your doorstep on a flatbed truck and deliver to your destination in the same manner.

Before you begin, you should take note of the following strict rules and regulations that govern the process of international auto shipping to Dubai.

General Procedures:

•    Your car will need to be evaluated by a custom’s official to acquire the correct market value of your car.
•    This evaluation figure will influence the amount of duty payable on the car. The duty is calculated at 5% of the market value of the car
•    There might be some implications that prevent your car’s entry. There are certain criteria in the rules of shipment for Dubai that your car needs to meet in order for your application to be submitted successfully. It is important to determine whether or not your car meets these criterion before you take it any further
•    A local license for the vehicle must be applied for from the Dubai Traffic Police

Documentation required to ship into Dubai:

You will need to have the following documents on hand and ready to submit when considering international auto shipping into Dubai:

•    A copy of your passport
•    Original trade documentation from your chosen international auto shipping agent
•    Commercial Invoice or proof of purchase
•    Proof of ownership
•    The evaluation document stating your car has been approved according to Dubai standards

When collecting your vehicle on Dubai soil, you will need to submit all of the above documentation with the exception of your passport.

Other Points to Note:

•    You will also need to pay custom’s duty for the car being shipped into Dubai. If there is more than one vehicle, you will pay per car.
•    In Dubai, cars drive on the right hand side of the road
•    If your car was manufactured after a certain time, you will need to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC). It is important to ask a government official what the cut off year will be when making your application to ensure that your car’s manufacture date falls into the correct period.

Now that you have all the correct information, the steps that follow will be far easier!

Bathroom Vents, Mold, and Wet Laundry

June 25th, 2008

A good shower or a bath can be quite relaxing, but not so much in a bathroom that is contaminated with mold on the ceilings, floor, or walls.  This manifests itself is a somewhat splotchy growth on the wall and it slowly moves from one part of the bathroom to another.  Leave it untreated and it will eventually go on to infest the entire bathroom.  Any drywall that is contaminated must usually be completely replaced, depending on how far along the growth of the colony is.  The mold will be able to seep through the entire depth of the drywall because it is a porous surface and unfortunately, all you can really do is replace it with a new piece.

Some homes these days are taking to putting carpet into the bathroom, but this is a serious mistake.  No matter how careful you are, the toilet, bath tub, or sink will eventually overflow and both your carpet and padding will be completely soaked in water.  If you do happen to have carpet in your bathroom and have no intentions of removing it, get ready for a mold hazard.  If the carpet and padding get wet and are not completely dried as soon as possible, mold will start to grow under it.  Once carpet padding gets molded, it has to be thrown away.  There is nothing else you can do.  The best advice is to take up the carpet and have tile installed.  This creates a waterproof barrier over your wooden floor.

Leaving damp rags, towels, or clothing on the floor anywhere is a bad idea and these items need to be washed as soon as you can, since if you leave them unattended for more than 48 hours, mold can start to grow on them.  Leaving them on a floor that is carpeted and then covering them up with dry clothes is even worse, since you will probably forget about the wet items and neglect to wash them.  This will cause mold to grow on everything in the pile, including the carpet and padding.  Clothes should be put into a hamper instead of on the floor and dry clothing should never be put on top of wet.

Keeping the humidity down in the bathroom can also be a big problem, especially if you do not have an exhaust vent installed so that steam can escape.  The water vapor adheres to the ceiling and is absorbed by it, causing it to be almost continually moist.  This is the perfect environment for mold to grow in and if you do not have an exhaust fan installed, this is something that you should invest in, especially if you are going to remodel the bathroom to remove the infection, anyway.

Mold in the Bible

June 22nd, 2008

Insurance adjusters are terribly fond of telling people that mold has been around long before human beings walked the earth and that it is not as big of a deal as the modern day medical community is making it out to be, however what many of these people don’t know (or are banking that their clients don’t know) is that mold has been a problem ever since Biblical times and probably before.

The book of Leviticus speaks of a mold contaminated home in chapter 14:39-47.  A priest was said to remove the stones in the home that were contaminated with mold and they were to be taken to a place outside of town that was used to dump things that were considered “unclean”.  If the mold (or mildew) came back after all these stones were removed, then the entire house was to be torn down.  It was considered to be a defiled place to live in and that also any clothing that was contaminated with it was to be shown to the priest and thrown away, as well.

The eighth plague of Egypt, the locusts, would have caused the Egyptians to collect as many crops from the field as possible and store them underground (where it is moist and dark).  It is speculated that the reason for the deaths of the first born children of Egypt was mold that contaminated the crops and when fed to children, would cause disease and if enough was ingested, death.  The Bible says that the eldest child received double portions of food in those times and a theory says that this is the reason that the firstborn alone died: he/she was the only child who had eaten enough of the mold for it to be fatal.  Stachybotrys atra, along with other kinds of mold, releases mycotoxins and if this was present in the grain that the Egyptians stored underground after the plague of locusts, then anyone who consumed it would have become ill.  It is said that the Jews living in Egypt at the time would have been eating herbs, unleavened bread, and lamb, which are supposedly safe from being contaminated by this mold.

So, if your insurance adjuster claims that mold was not a problem years ago and that mold has been around longer than we have, take a Bible and show him the book of Leviticus.  Even if he’s not religious, seeing mold talked about in a text over 2,000 years old should be enough to take back his statements.

Cleaning Moldy Clothes

June 18th, 2008

Our first instinct when we come into contact with clothing that has been contaminated by mold is to throw it away. Depending on the lifestyle you’re currently living, as in whether you work a full time job or have children or other matters to tend to, it might indeed be more beneficial to your situation to just throw them away. But, if you have a little more time on your hands and a little patience, you can keep the clothing that was covered in mold as long as you’re careful to completely decontaminate it.

Most items can be cleaned and the mold gotten rid of, but one thing that mold tends to do is cause stains. If you’re dealing with white clothing, you can possibly use bleach to remove them, but the longer you let the clothes sit without treating them, the more difficult it will be to remove the stain in the long run. A brush can be used to remove the mold and putting a pre-wash spray onto it and soaking it in water and laundry soap can be a good way to begin the process of removing the stain. Let it soak in the water around 45 minutes and then wash it in the washing machine. The best thing that you can do after they’re done washing is to let them dry outside naturally on a clothes line in the sun instead of using the clothes dryer in the laundry room. Using this artificial heat source can hinder your effort to remove the stain, but putting white clothes outside in the sun can actually help whiten them.

If you have something made of real leather and mold grows on it, the easiest thing to do is throw it away. Leather items can usually not be restored back to their former condition after becoming contaminated with mold.

If you need to clean mold off of furniture or anything else made of cloth, using the brush method mentioned a minute ago is the best way to go about doing this. Using a vacuum cleaner that has a hose and brush attachment piece can help in making sure that the mold spores get sucked up into the vacuum instead of into your air conditioning system. Clean the item where the mold was with a clean white rag and laundry or dish liquid, as long as you’re sure that the cleaner won’t stain the fabric.

gifts for the gourmand

May 22nd, 2008

Ah, the finer things in life. Every once in a while, we all enjoy tasting life on the elegant side. The problem is, we do not get that many chances to. It’s expensive to enjoy the richer life. But with gourmet gift baskets, you can give a little taste of the nice life without breaking the bank. With gourmet gift baskets, it’s not about how much you can fit into a basket, it’s about selection. Choosing only the finest options to include in a gift basket is what gourmet gift baskets are all about. Here are some examples of how you can give the sweet side of life to someone you care about:

Gourmet chocolates: This is one of the most popular. These chocolates are smooth and divine. These are not grocery store checkout line candy bars. They are delicious and special to those who get to eat them.

Gourmet popcorn: Freshly-popped and sometimes flavored, this popcorn makes for a treat that you don’t get to enjoy every day.

Preserves: Grandma would be proud! Fresh preserves are a sweet and wonderful alternative to your standard jelly.

There are others as well: cheeses, nuts, and little candies. Giving gourmet gift baskets is giving a delicious and relaxing time for anyone who wants to sit back and dream about the “good life.”

Random Interviewing Teaches Little

May 21st, 2008

When you are invited for a job interview, it pays to be prepared, and part of being prepared is knowing ahead of time how you are going to do certain things that will give you a competitive advantage. ITS helps you do this in six ways because it teaches you how to:

(1) Read the interviewer’s personality

(2) Maximize personal chemistry in minutes

(3) Communicate through memorable stories

(4) Have good questions ready

(5) Know all about the employer

(6) Answer difficult questions easily

ITS provides some guidance in both print and audio. Things you can learn include how to overcome objections while building rapport, how to select and prepare references, how to answer common questions, and much more. The surprising thing is, it does not take a person that long to be thoroughly prepared in all these areas, and once they’ve done the preparation, they’re set for the entire job search.

Many job seekers will find one section particularly interesting. It is titled ‘5 Proven Rules For Interviewing Success.’ It gives you detailed instructions on how to build personal chemistry in a number of ways, how to pay compliments, for example, without coming across as giving empty flattery, how to ask questions that direct the discussion to areas you know will help you, and how to follow up and project enthusiasm. Of course, researching employers ahead of time is always important, for several reasons, and ITS has a number of resources that enable job seekers to quickly learn a lot, not only about a company, but also about the industry and, backgrounds of key individuals in the company.

ITS offers Personal Marketing Services that goes far beyond Outplacement Career counseling. ITS uses its own unique technology to give job seekers access to as much as 85% of the advertised openings, including those from newspapers, recruiter openings, job boards, employer sites, and trade magazines. It also provides access to the unadvertised job market among employers, recruiters and growth companies.

Best Real Estate Broker in Charleston?

May 19th, 2008

Whether you’re buying or selling a home, whom you choose as your real estate broker or real estate brokerage makes all the difference in the world – whether in a buyer’s market or seller’s market, bubble or bust. It is important that they be a licensed realtor. This means they will have an understanding of how to value luxury, historical, or other specialized properties. In Charleston, real estate agent Lee Keadle gets my vote for the best. He has helped me buy and sell four homes, and each time I have sold for more than I asked and paid less than was asked for each home – truly a midas touch.

charleston real estate

May 19th, 2008

One trend in the recent slip in median home prices is easily seen in Charleston. Luxury real estate prices seem to have been untouched by recent declines, as the few “haves” continue to try outbid one another for choice properties. Beachfront, waterfront, near the college, or near the hotels, luxury real estate across the board in Charleston is the bubble that keeps growing. When will it burst? If the past is any indication of the future, the answer is that it probably won’t.

Florida homes

May 19th, 2008

As far as real estate goes, the news in southern Florida these days revolves around Palm Beach, Miami, and Jacksonville. But little sub-suburbs if you will are sneaking under the radar. Take Boca Raton, Jupiter, and Ponte Vedra, FL. Real estate prices in these affluent communities have stayed about flat or even risen while the bigger centers which they surround have seen fast downward spirals in prices. Be it beachfront property, a condo, apartment, single-family home or small business, the best real estate agents will get you more in places like Ponte Vedra or Atlantic Beach than they’ll be able to fetch in, say, Palm Beach.

Jacksonville Real Estate

May 19th, 2008

While half-built condos in Palm Beach, Del Ray, Boca, and Miami have seen drops in asking price of over 30% in many cases, one area where condo prices have held up nicely is Jacksonville. Florida Real Estate is not necessarily all connected, one broker explained to me. The biggest factors in determining prices on new condos are supply and demand, sure, but one the big driver is not the supply built by new builders but the demand shifts caused by demographic changes. In Jacksonville, the economy has grown tremendously as a function of college graduates not wanting to move from this relative young person’s paradise. That translates into a cheap work force, which brings in more employers, which creates a greater demand for decent condo-style housing. This, and not a lack of supply, has been the driver of prices in Jacksonville, and that is why condo prices there will continue to increase.
